Since the dawn of time body piercings have long been the subject of much debate, from being an artistic declaration & a celebration of one's physical beauty,one such piece of piercing is "the Belly Ring/Navel Ring".

In old times, body piercings were looked upon in a different light, dependant on the specific culture. As most body piercings had a rite or ritual worth, many cultures frowned upon certain types of body piercings that were purely for the purpose of beautification.

Warriors of old Central & South American culture wore body piercings, expressly in the area of the nose, in order to seem more frightening to their enemies. On the other hand, lip piercings & embellishments were meant to aggrandize attractiveness, specfically with women of that day & age, & while body piercings were more or less common in ancient Egypt, the ancient Egyptian pharaohs actually staked claim to certain types of piercings.

An example.... NO ONE other than the royal family members could wear navel rings, for fear of being put to of death! Yikes....talk about paying a price for vainness.

There is still a little stigma associated with body piercings these days though, specifically among younger women.
